Mercasol 3 is a professional automotive anti-corrosion treatment product designed to provide long-term protection for vehicle underbodies and wheel arches against mechanical wear and corrosion. The product is based on bitumen and wax, diluted with aliphatic naphtha to ensure good adhesion and a durable protective coating.

How does it work?

Mercasol 3 BL (black) is a coating based on plasticised bitumen and wax, designed for harsh operating conditions.

Once applied, it forms a thick, flexible and mechanically durable film that effectively protects the surface from impacts from stones and gravel, road salt, moisture and corrosion.

The coating is designed to resist chipping and peeling caused by vibrations and impacts, maintaining long-term protection.

This product has become a standard for many specialist workshops because it effectively prevents corrosion in areas most exposed to road debris, sand and stones. Anti-corrosion treatment with this product ensures the car underbody remains intact even after several harsh winter seasons.

The product is compatible with most car manufacturers’ corrosion protection systems.

Key technical advantages

When carrying out anti-corrosion treatment, it is important to use materials that not only coat the surface but also actively combat oxidation.

• Impact resistance: Thanks to the flexibility of bitumen and its wax-based formula, the resulting layer absorbs stone impacts, preventing the coating from cracking or peeling.
• High viscosity: When applied, it forms a thick layer with excellent adhesion to metal surfaces, preventing air and moisture from getting through.

Areas of use

The product is designed for vehicle structures exposed directly to external elements:

• car underbody (chassis)
• wheel arches
• metal surfaces exposed to abrasive wear

For a complete protection system, use with Mercasol 1 for cavity and seam protection is recommended.

Instructions for use

• Surface preparation: The surface must be dry and free of rust, salt and oils. For cavity and joint protection, it is recommended to use Mercasol 1 first.
• Application: Working temperature: +15°C to +25°C. Apply an even coating with a pneumatic spray gun or aerosol (2 coats if necessary).
• Recommended film thickness: ~400 µm wet film, ~200 µm dry film.
• Drying: Surface dry in ~4 hours under standard conditions.
• Cleaning: Clean tools with aliphatic naphtha or Mercasol Cleaner

Compatibility and system use

Mercasol is part of a multi-layer anti-corrosion protection system, where correct surface preparation is essential.

Important: Mercasol 1 and Mercasol 3 products are not intended for direct application to active rust.

For rusting surfaces, we recommend using Owatrol Oil as the first stabilising layer. It penetrates the rust, stops its progression and forms a monolithic, stable coating that prepares the surface for further treatment. Available in: 300 ml aerosol, 0.5 l and 1 l packs.

After surface stabilisation:

• Mercasol 1 protects internal cavities after surface stabilisation.
• Mercasol 3 AL (bronze) provides an external protective layer with high mechanical and moisture resistance thanks to its aluminium pigment content.
• Mercasol 3 BL (black) is an alternative coating with the same protective properties, selected according to aesthetic or application requirements.

Products are available:

• in a 600 ml aerosol format equipped with a special nozzle for precise application
• in a 1 l pack intended for use with a pneumatic spray gun and a special cavity probe.

Combined, these layers form a complete corrosion protection system for the car body and underbody, with clearly defined functions: rust stabilisation, cavity protection and an external mechanical barrier.
